Fusible Links

Some circuits have fusible links. A fusible link is a type of circuit protector. It is a short piece of wire that has a smaller diameter than the rest of the circuit. If too much current runs through the circuit, the wire overheats and melts, opening the circuit. When a circuit is open, no electricity can flow. A fusible link has a nonflammable insulation that bubbles to indicate that it has blown.
