Light Sources

Light is emitted using different technologies. A tungsten filament bulb uses a resistive wire that heats up to create light. Filament bulbs consume large amounts of energy compared to the light they emit. To increase light output, halogen gas can be used with the filament. Halogen lamps run at a higher temperature which leads to increased light over a standard filament bulb. High-intensity discharge (HID), also called xenon lights, use an electric arc to create light. Light-emitting diode (LED) lights use a semiconductor chip to emit light, consuming significantly less energy than the other technologies.
