Running on Empty

Most drivers run out of fuel at least once in their driving career, not knowing just how far they can go when the fuel gauge drops to “E”. Keep in mind that running a tank low repeatedly can accelerate electric in-tank fuel pump wear. Fuel acts as a cooling system for the fuel pump and when the fuel is low the pump does not cool as effectively. If you do run out, never put gas in an unapproved container. Some gas stations will loan an approved gas can if you leave a deposit.
