Jump-Starting

Vehicles can be damaged if jump-start cables are not connected with the correct polarity. The red jumper cable clamps should always go to the positive battery terminals (+) and the black jumper cable clamps should always go to the negative battery terminal (–) and bare metal (ground). Warning: Jump-starting can cause serious injury and damage. If you are unsure about how to do it, call for roadside assistance.

Remote Jumper Block. If the battery is not easily accessible, there may be designated remote jumper block terminals for the jumper cable connection.

Negative Jump-Start Attachment. A vehicle may also have a designated negative jump-start attachment for the ground.

Jump-Starting Steps. Check the owner’s manual first for any specific recommendations and then complete each step of the jump-start procedure carefully. Warning: Never try to jump-start a battery that is low on electrolyte or that is frozen.
