Drive Belts

The crankshaft transfers the reciprocating (up and down or back and forth) motion of the pistons into a rotary (circular) motion that turns the crankshaft pulley with the drive belt. The drive belt then turns other pulleys (water pump, mechanical fan, power steering pump, alternator, and air conditioning compressor). Worn or loose drive belts can cause slippage, leading to engine overheating.
